Step-by-Step Guide: How to Connect WhatsApp Business API with Spacechat

Pre-requisite : An active phone number to register it with WhatsApp Business API.

Part 1:

Step 1: Visit business.facebook.com and login with your facebook credentials.

Step 2: Select your companies Business Manager from the dropdown or create one if you don’t have.

Step 3: Click on Settings > Business settings

Step 4: Navigate to Apps on left navigation bar and then click on Add > Create a new app.

Step 5: Select Business and hit next.

Step 6: Name the App “Spacechat” , select your email address and hit Create App

Step 7: Provide Facebook password to create the app.

Step 8: On Dashboard scroll down and click on “Set up” button of WhatsApp

Step 9: Now you’ll be on “Getting started page” , scroll to the bottom and click on “Add phone number”

Step 10: Provide your business name as mentioned in your legal documents > Select relevant Timezone (Ex. Asia/Kolkata for India) > Select category of your business. Now click on “Next” button

Step 11: Select the country code of your phone number > Enter your phone number > Hit “Next”

Step 12: Now Enter the OTP received on the phone number > Hit “Next”

Step 13: Hurray you have got the WhatsApp business cloud API.

Step 14: Now on the “Getting started” page > Select your phone number in “From” field.

Step 15: Copy and paste the “Phone Number Id” and “WhatsApp account Id” on Spacechat setup_WhatsApp page.

Part 2: Setting up the Webhook

Step 16: Now on “WhatsApp” page on Spacechat. Click on “Webhook” button beside “Connect” button.

Step 17: Copy the “Callback Url” and “Verify token” from the pop up box

Step 18: Go to facebook apps page “Getting Started” > Configuration and then click on edit button.

Step 19: Paste the copied “Callback Url” and “Verify token” to “Callback Url” and “Verify token” field respectively.

Step 20: Now click on “Manage”.

Step 21: Subscribe to “message_template_status_update” and “messages”.

Part 3: Making App Live

Step 22: Now go to Settings > Basic on Facebook apps page and copy paste the below privacy policy link in the Privacy policy field . Hit “Save”

Step 23: Turn the app mode to “Live” which is on Top navigation bar

Part 4: Getting Access Token

Step 25: Go to business.facebook.com > settings > Business settings.

Step 26: On left navigation bar click on “System users”

Step 27: If you do not have Admin System user then create it by clicking on “Add” > Name the user Spacechat > Select role “Admin”.

Step 28: Now select the System user and click on “Add asset” on middle card > Click on “Apps” > Select the app name “Spacechat” > On right side turn on “Full control” toggle button > Hit save

Step 29: Now click on “Generate Token” > scroll down on pop up and check mark “whatsapp_messaging” and “whatsapp_business_management” > scroll to bottom and hit “Generate”.
